Meta officially launched its text-based social media platform, Threads—engineered to be a direct competitor to Twitter. The platform is now available in more than 100 countries as of Wednesday, July 5, and was released ahead of its anticipated launch date. 

It’s one of our favorite days of the year. Even if we make this claim multiple times a year — we really mean it this time.

Don’t believe us? We are celebrating a day that brings so much exuberance, it can’t be ignored. It’s a day so powerful, it could cause a cultural reset. 

We guarantee that after today, you will never forget this iconic moment. 

We get it, you’re probably wondering what day could possibly be so important. And the answer is: National Hat Day.

As a professional social media enthusiast, this is the best time of the year to scroll through my feed mindlessly. I see beautiful tablescapes and homes decked out in cozy decor, hundreds of Instagram Stories of pets dressed in ugly sweaters, and brands putting all of their creative efforts into social media campaigns that take months of planning. 

Picture it: One day you are on top of the world conquering the social media algorithm. The next, a social media platform announces a new feature that has your social media strategy shaking in its boots.

But, as we see often, social media users aren’t quite ready for the change these platforms are trying to make. Yes, I am looking at you Instagram Reels—but we will save that post for another day. 

Today is a momentous day for the social media world: the last day to use a failed social media update that didn’t gain traction. I’m talking about Twitter Fleets, the Story function of the social platform that users didn’t want and never asked for.

The last year has been a heavy one, to say the least. And while we’re starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, we’re still in need of something to make our days a little brighter. That’s where the little things come in.
