How Slack Has Helped Keep Our Culture Alive

Anyone who knows Nebo, knows our culture is everyone’s #1 favorite thing about our company. Or maybe it’s just my favorite thing because I’m on the culture team and volunteer for every single event ever (think: Neboween, Pi Day, Chili Cookoffs, etc.), and I’m biased. Either way, our culture is important to us, and going remote way back in March 2020 (102398029384 days ago, not that I’m counting) seriously threw a wrench in our togetherness plans.

Enter: Slack.

It’s 2019 And We’re Still Running Sexist Holiday Ads?

Everyone who knows me knows I love the holiday season. From decorating my apartment, and my desk, and my car, and my cats in seasonal embellishments, to turkey dinners and cozy sweaters, it’s by far my favorite time of year.

December also means exchanging gifts with my loved ones. I do all my shopping online and cut cable a while ago, so I rarely, if ever, organically see any holiday commercials. But when I do, I’m always gobsmacked by the sheer absurdity and level of blatant sexism that is found in every holiday commercial ever. Which, okay, is an exaggeration, but only slightly.

The Importance of Perspective and Understanding Others

I once told my therapist that I live my life trying not to offend anyone. She was pretty taken aback and said that sounded like a very difficult and exhausting way to live life. And she’s right — it is.

Whenever I’m talking to someone, my brain is always three steps ahead, trying to make sure I won’t accidentally say something that could be considered a microaggression, or politically incorrect or just genuinely hurtful. I’m hyperaware of the conversations I have and whether or not I’m “allowed” to have them, or if there are words I’m not “allowed” to use. It’s exhausting, but it’s worth it.

The New Age of Email

Email marketing is often misunderstood. When people ask me what I do and I tell them I’m an email marketing specialist, the first (and most frequent) response I get is “Oh, so you send all those spam emails? I hate you.” Or “Oh, so you just send emails all day? That’s easy. I wish that’s all I had to do.”

This is annoying for a number of reasons, but mostly because it seems that no one really appreciates (or understands) the effort that goes into making a good email.

We live in a time of rapid growth and innovation. Take AI for example, which has completely changed the way we approach everything from social listening to media buying. New tech is transforming everything digital.

Can that be said for email as well?

Employee Spotlight: Office Dogs Edition

It’s no secret that Nebo loves animals. From the Change Your Chicken Challenge, to working with PAWS Atlanta, to launching the Rescue Pledge, we strive to make the world a better place — not just for humans, but for our animal friends, too.

On any given day, you can find up to three dogs running around the office, sitting on laps, eating trash or causing general mayhem. And it’s been that way since the beginning. From day one, when Brian’s beloved Terminator roamed the halls of Nebo, to our newest pup Pipa, we’ve always been a dog-loving agency.

The chew toys are copious, the dog beds outnumber the couches and there’s a whole dog calendar just for puppy reservations. In case that’s not enough, the #Aww Slack channel pings all day with puppy pics (and sometimes cats).

I think it’s safe to say the dogs are something that makes Nebo special, and we wanted to introduce the world to our favorite four-legged friends. Hopefully they’ll make you as happy as they make us.
